Capt. Jack Jernee is best know for his time as the Captain of the Ocean City Beach Patrol from 1920-1942.
During his time as Captain, he developed the Ocean City Beach Patrol into one of the finest, most efficient life saving outfits in the United States.
Interestingly few who have ever come in contact with Capt. Jernee felt neutral about him. Either they disliked the hard-shelled, uncompromising disciplinarian because of his blunt, outspoken way of expressing himself, or they admired and supported him because of his obvious sincerity. They approved his untiring zeal and enthusiasm and his endless resourcefulness.
Capt. Jernee had a great love for Ocean City and its people. He not only had the ability to organize and run an efficient life-saving organization, but he also had a talent for putting on an outstanding public relations effort that benefited the entire community.
